The Blog

Hi to all those who have expressed interest in our up and coming production of Psalty: The Take-your-time.

Here are all the details so far. We are planning the children’s auditions for Monday the 13th of December, from 5PM.

Venue: St Peter’s Anglican Church Hall, Ruahine Street (exactly opposite the Terrace End end of Broadway, behind the grey concrete church). Take right hand drive way for parking and entrance. For the audition you will be required to sing one verse of Silent Night (closed auditions, ie, no audience other than musical director), and, if you are after a speaking role, expect to read a short extract of dialogue.

The audition format is as follows: Auditionees are to arrive punctually and they will be given a short briefing, along with an audition form, and a number. They will then be required to go into the audition room one at a time in their numerical order. After everyone has auditioned, the numbers of the successful candidates will be called out. They will then be auditioned in group format and the final children’s chorus will be selected from among their numbers. Children are not required to audition for a specific part, their parts will be given out by the director. (They must simply state on the audition form whether or not they want a speaking role).

The auditions for adult parts or for the parts of dancers are set for the same day, same venue, starting at 7PM. The audition format for these auditions are slightly different but we are sure you will be able to work it out:-). The parts will be given out as thought best but preferences will be noted. (You can put them down on your audition form). The character list is attached above. Dancers need to come prepared with a short, prepared dance, no longer than 2 minutes.

Looking further afield, the musical is set to run from Thursday the 26th of May to Saturday the 28th, four shows, including a matinee. Rehearsals will commence at the start of term 1, 2011 and will go up to the show nights. After the auditions, the cast will meet once to have a read through and to be given their rehearsal CD for the summer holidays.
